Green Speaks to Return-to-Work Strategies with Insurance Business Magazine
July 7, 2026Charlie Green, Berkshire Hathaway GUARD’s new Head of Workers’ Compensation Claims, recently shared his expertise on return-to-work (RTW) programs with Insurance Business magazine. RTW programs are designed to help injured employees safely transition back to work while recovering. When thoughtfully implemented, these programs can provide benefits for both employees and employers – resulting in successful Workers’ Compensation outcomes.
Charlie dispelled some common misconceptions about when to implement RTW programs.

“One of the most common [misconceptions] is the belief that return-to-work planning can wait until after an injury occurs,” he said. In reality, RTW programs require a proactive approach to establish expectations and define roles and accommodations before an incident occurs. Another misconception is that employees can’t return to work until they have fully recovered. Instead, if employers can accommodate medical restrictions and adjust responsibilities, they can reintegrate employees sooner for more favorable outcomes.
“There’s often a gap in awareness and preparedness,” Charlie said. “Without a defined plan, employers may face uncertainty around how to safely and effectively bring employees back to work, which can delay recovery and return-to-work progress.”
