PAID TIME OFF

Our benefits include paid vacation, sick, and holiday time. Each calendar year, a select amount of unused vacation time may be rolled over to the following year. Additionally, employees may choose to sell back a portion of unused sick time (once twenty sick days have been accrued). Paid maternity and paternity leave is also available to those who have been employed six months or longer.

As a company, we also observe the following holidays as paid time off: New Year’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday following Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Employees may be awarded up to two additional holidays depending on how the calendar falls.

HEALTHCARE BENEFITS

Medical Insurance

Employees are eligible for health insurance on the first day of employment. The plan is a low-cost, low-deductible PPO plan, which is available in all states as part of a national network of doctors. Our plan also offers low copays for prescriptions.

Vision Insurance

Employees are eligible for vision insurance on the first day of the following month of hiring. The plan covers eye exams every 12 months. When visiting a doctor or supplier who participates in the plan, an exam and standard eyewear can be obtained at no cost.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is available after 90 days of employment. Coverage includes: diagnostic and preventative, basic restorative, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, major restorative, prosthodontics, denture repair, and orthodontics for children only.

Life Insurance and Disability Insurance

We offer paid life insurance equal to two (2) times an employee’s annual salary, at no cost. After three months of employment, employees may also participate in our short-term and long-term disability plans.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program provides three free financial, emotional, or mental health counseling sessions per year for employees and their household family members.

Flexible Spending and Dependent Care

We offer Flexible Spending Accounts, which allow employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay for personal and dependent medical expenses (which are not covered by insurance). We also make available The Dependent Care Assistance Account which enables employees to pay for out-of-pocket, work-related dependent day-care or elder care costs with pre-tax dollars. 401(K) AND PROFIT SHARING

Our plan was established to provide additional retirement income and to share the profits of Berkshire Hathaway GUARD with employees. Currently, we offer a 401(k) generous company match. Employees who have worked for 90 days will be eligible to enroll.

Additionally, the company may make a yearly profit sharing contribution for eligible employees based on the company’s profits for the year and the employee’s salary. In-depth details regarding enrollment, company match, and profit sharing will be available to qualified candidates during their job interview.

TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT

For candidates looking to start their careers, we offer an internship program for local college students. We also have a number of entry-level and experience-level job openings in a variety of fields.

Upon hiring, each new employee participates in GUARDStart. GUARDStart is an introductory training program that prepares GUARD trainees for a career at Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies. During GUARDStart, you will be introduced to important insurance concepts and terminology while receiving hands-on system training on our proprietary insurance software. In addition, you will learn about GUARD’s products and departments to help you achieve a full understanding of our organization. Upon completion of the program, you will have gained exposure and valuable hands-on experience in GUARD’s diverse business areas, preparing you for your role and career within Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies.

Current employees can also take advantage of our Job Posting Program, which allows qualified individuals who have been employed for three months in good standing, and who have passed an introductory insurance exam, to apply for other roles within the company.

EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT

After six months of employment, full- and part-time employees are eligible to utilize our Tuition Payment Program. Qualified employees receive financial assistance for approved courses.

Insurance licensing renewal, continuing education courses, and work-related designations or seminars are also eligible for financial assistance upon approval.
