BH GUARD Sees Reduction in Accidents with Cars Equipped with SDS Active Driver Assistance System
September 2, 2022Safe Drive Systems (SDS) recently announced the results of a three-year pilot project conducted by Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies.
In 2018, SDS’s anti-collision radar solution was installed in 585 vehicles operated by 40 commercial fleets insured by Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies, and they were driven for a total of 1.2 million miles. The pilot clearly demonstrated the value of SDS collision avoidance functionality and the value provided, both to vehicle owners and the insurance company.
“After an initial adjustment period, the liability frequency for SDS vehicles outperformed those in the control group,” stated Amber Ng, Chief Actuary at Berkshire Hathaway GUARD. “The data showed that once the SDS systems were installed in the vehicles, the number of collisions dropped by over 25% after adjusting for other variables.”
