GUARD’s Becky Barnette Offers Workers’ Comp Insights in Rough Notes

GUARD’s Vice President of Workers’ Compensation, Becky Barnette, was featured this month in Rough Notes, a premier monthly trade magazine for independent property and casualty insurance agents and brokers.

In an article exploring the impact of aging on the Workers’ Compensation industry, Barnette offered her perspective on the stability of Workers’ Comp, suggesting that long-term decline in claim frequency continues to outweigh rising claim severity.

“High turnover in manual trades can elevate risk due to inexperienced workers, inconsistent training, or unfamiliarity with safety practices,” Barnette said. Despite this, she added, “the construction sector, particularly small contractors, continues to experience declining claims frequency. This is happening even though there haven’t been fundamental changes in how the work is performed.”
