Amber Ng, FCAS, MAAA

Chief Actuary

As Chief Actuary and Senior Vice President at Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies, Amber Ng is responsible for the company’s Actuarial and Regulatory Compliance and State Filings Unit. She plays a lead role in establishing rates, defining pricing philosophy in relation to underwriting guidelines, evaluating liabilities, setting reserves, and interacting with reinsurers, rating organizations, and other business partners. Amber is instrumental in strategic development and driving forward GUARD’s long-term business plans, which includes diversification of our product lines, increasing product state availability and new product development.

Before taking on the role of Chief Actuary, Amber was Senior Actuary at GUARD responsible for overseeing the pricing and reserving for the Commercial Auto, Package, and Programs books. With over 20 years of experience within the insurance industry, Amber was previously employed by The Hartford Insurance Company where she worked in a variety of pricing, reserving, and reinsurance roles across many lines of business including E&O, D&O, Commercial Property, General Liability, and Homeowners. Her accomplishments include leading the Homeowners Countrywide Pricing team through the implementation of key methodology, process improvements, and playing a critical role in the deployment of a new claims system.  

Amber is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. She is a graduate of Drake University with a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration degree in Actuarial Science.
