Property insurance policies often contain an endorsement that requires specific protective safeguards (such as automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarms, security devices, etc.) to be in operation at all times as a condition of coverage. Failure to maintain the protective safeguards in good working order or failure to notify the insurance company of even a temporary impairment in protection could suspend coverage until the protection is restored.
